Patriots-Packers preseason game suspended early after Isaiah Bolden injury
The Week 2 preseason matchup between the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers came to an early end on Saturday night. Play was suspended with 10:29 to play in the fourth quarter after Patriots cornerback Isaiah Bolden suffered a serious injury and was carted off the field.
Bolden was involved in a collision covering a slant route, getting hit by Patriots linebacker Calvin Munson. Bolden was motionless on the field as he was attended to by the Patriots training staff and the NFL’s independent neurotrauma consultants. He was later put on a backboard and carted off.
As the training staff was attending to Bolden, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and special teamer Matthew Slater met with Packers head coach Matt LaFleur and head referee John Hussey. Soon after that conversation, it was announced the game was suspended.
The scene looked familiar to one the NFL saw last year late in the regular season, when Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin had to be revived on the field after a collision in a Monday Night Football game. That game was also suspended.
As of 11:10 p.m. ET, there has been no update from the team on Bolden’s status. Belichick is still scheduled to speak after the game.
UPDATE: The Patriots released the following statement at 11:15 p.m. on Bolden:
“Patriots cornerback Isaiah Bolden sustained an injury during the fourth quarter of tonight’s game. He had feeling in all his extremities, but has been taken to a local hospital for further tests and observation.”
