This marks the first career MLS All-Star selection for Petrović, who made his MLS debut midway through the 2022 season. Petrović becomes the fifth Revolution goalkeeper selected as an MLS All-Star, the first since Matt Turner, who now plays with the All-Star’s opponent Arsenal FC, in 2021.
Petrović is among 26 MLS players named to the MLS All-Star Team roster and was one of 12 players selected by MLS All-Star Head Coach Wayne Rooney, manager of host club D.C. United. An additional two players were selected by MLS Commissioner Don Garber, and the remaining 12 players were picked through the fan, player, and media vote.
After being named a finalist for the Allstate MLS Goalkeeper of the Year and MLS Newcomer of the Year awards in 2022, Petrović has continued his elite form into 2023 with a 9-3-6 record and six clean sheets through 18 starts. The Serbian international, who has been called into the national team three times since debuting for his country in 2021, ranks second in MLS this season with 75 saves and a 77.1 save percentage.
His sixth clean sheets rank fifth in the league. Earlier this year, he became the fastest goalkeeper in MLS history to record five penalty-kick saves, doing so in only 31 games, while also becoming the fifth MLS goalkeeper to record 10 clean sheets in his first 25 league starts.
The 2022 Revolution Team MVP and Revolution Players’ Player of the Year recipient, Petrović leads MLS with 160 saves since the goalkeeper made his MLS debut on June 12, 2022. His 13 career shutouts are third most in league play since his MLS debut.
The Revolution (10-3-6, 36 pts. – 2nd in Eastern Conference) visit TQL Stadium to face Supporters’ Shield leaders FC Cincinnati (13-2-4, 43 pts. – 1st in Eastern Conference), on Saturday, July 1 with seven points separating the league’s top two sides.
