Alex Cora clarifies Xander Bogaerts’ health status ahead of Opening Day
After Xander Bogaerts was out of the Red Sox’ lineup for a few days, Alex Cora gave an update on his shortstop’s health heading into Opening Day.
As reported by Xander Bogaerts hasn't played in a Grapefruit League game since 3/30, but he's been hitting in minor lg camp games. Cora said Sox are "just taking care of him" as he deals w/general soreness, but he's expected to play last 2 Grapefruit Lg games and be ready for Opening Day.
“His feet, his hands — it always happens in spring training,” said Cora (via the Boston Globe). “He’ll be ready for [Opening Day].”
Cora also noted that Bogaerts will play the final two spring training games before Opening Day on Thursday. The shortstop returned to the Red Sox lineup in Monday’s spring training game against the Minnesota Twins, going 1-for-3 at the plate.
