Patriots Ups & Downs: Not much to write home about in ugly loss to Saints
The Patriots have a lot of work to do. They put together a bad all-around performance against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, losing 28-13 to fall to 1-2 on the 2021 season, as they get ready to host Tom Brady and the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4.
Quarterback Mac Jones should qualify as a “down,” if you were to pick one. Jones was 30-of-51 passing for 270 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. But it wasn’t all his fault: the pass protection was poor, his second interception was after a bobble by tight end Jonnu Smith, and his third pick came on a desperation heave in garbage time. However, Jones could not avoid the back-breaking error, as his first INT helped set up a Saints touchdown.
The Pats did have a few bright spots to take out of this game, but they weren’t nearly enough to lift up the rest of the roster amid uncharacteristically poor football.
Here are the complete ups & downs from the loss to the Saints…
Next Ups & Downs will come late next Sunday night, after the Pats play the Bucs.
