Patriots running back Rex Burkhead confirmed everyone's fears on Tuesday, tweeting that he won't play again until 2021 after suffering a knee injury against the Houston Texans.

"Appreciate the support and all those who have reached out the past couple of days," Burkhead tweeted. "Look forward to coming back better than ever in 2021."

Jeff Howe of The Athletic first reported that the Patriots feared a torn ACL for Burkhead, who had to be carted off the field in the third quarter of Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Texans.

Before the injury, Burkhead had gained 12 yards on six total touches in the game. He averaged 4.1 yards per carry and 7.7 yards per catch for the Patriots in 2020, and entered Sunday second on the team in total rushing/receiving touchdowns with six.
