Sports Hub 10th Anniversary: Remembering the Patriots’ comeback win in Super Bowl LI
By Matt Dolloff, 985TheSportsHub.com
It’s still hard to describe how the hell it happened.
The Patriots, down 28-3 midway through the third quarter of Super Bowl LI and 28-9 at the start of the fourth, found a way to come back and beat the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 in Super Bowl LI. It’s easily one of the most memorable nights in NFL history and certainly a heck of a night and following week for the Sports Hub.
Listen above as Zolak & Bertrand reflect on one of professional sports’ greatest comebacks as part of the station’s 10th anniversary on Tuesday. Love or hate the Hub, Patriots fans can all agree on the indescribable thrills of their win over the Falcons.
So many things had to go right for the Patriots. They needed that first touchdown late in the third quarter to get the comeback rolling. They needed Stephen Gostkowski’s field goal to set up the finish. They needed Matt Ryan to fumble the ball away thanks to Dont’a Hightower’s blitz off the edge. They needed both touchdowns and both two-point conversions to tie the game. They needed the Falcons to flub their chance at a game-clinching possession by losing 23 yards in three plays. And they needed to win the overtime coin toss in order to drive right down the field and finally rip the Falcons’ hearts completely out of their chests.
They got them all.
Surely you’ll never forget the Patriots’ comeback that night. It was well worth revisiting for hour four of Zolak & Bertrand on the Hub’s 10th anniversary.
