The newest report on Tom Brady suggests that the New England Patriots quarterback not only has no issues with reporting early to training camp, but perhaps has never been more excited for football season.
Mike Reiss had some quick thoughts around the Patriots and NFL on ESPN on Sunday, and among them is this tidbit about the QB: “After staying away from voluntary workouts for what he termed family considerations, Brady is described as being as excited as ever for another season, according to those close to him.” This follows up an Instagram comment by Brady that implied his intention to report to Patriots training camp ahead of the Wednesday, July 25 arrival date for veterans.
Despite the promising recent developments for Brady, other reports indicate that Brady still had some issues to work through with head coach Bill Belichick. In addition, the head coach may have things to work out with Robert Kraft over the owner’s recent involvement in football matters, according to Greg Bedard of the Boston Sports Journal. It’s unclear whether Brady’s early arrival was at all related to those situations, or anything beyond getting back to football.
Brady previously missed all of the Patriots’ voluntary organized team activities for what he cited “personal reasons”. He spent time with his family and attended various events in Monaco, Qatar, and other places outside of New England while OTAs went on. But Brady did attend all three days of mandatory minicamp in Foxboro, and occasionally worked out at the TB12 Center at Patriot Place on days when the Patriots weren’t practicing.
It’s no surprise that the 41-year-old Brady remains excited for football. He’s also giving himself a better chance to be sharp at the start of training camp. The questions about his relationship with Belichick may persist through all this, but the important thing in the end will be how Brady looks on the field.
As a player, he still has yet to show signs of the Max Kellerman “cliff”.
