Zolak & Bertrand

In the aftermath of the Patriots 20-7 Week 1 loss at the hands of the Dolphins in Miami, head coach Bill Belichick has found many of the silver linings to come out of the first game.

  • Zolak and Bertrand react to Belichick's positive spin on the Patriots Week 1 loss

Zolak: Bill felt like he was in some way excusing in a way. On Sunday because it’s week one. It’s not October yet, I guess. I don’t know. But he continued it yesterday with things I’ve never heard him say.

I just think it’s too early to pile on the negativity like that with the team that could be mentally fragile. The reason Bill was the way Bill was in other days and other years was he knew we had better teams and stronger teams, better veteran leadership. I don’t know who the veteran leaders are other than the guys we keep managing. David Andrews, Matt Slater, and Devin McCourty. Other than those guys whose are veteran leaders? I hope it’s guys like Adrian Phillips or Kyle Dugger can be that type of guy. But who are the leaders on offense?

Beetle: I don’t think that’s what it is. And I’ve heard a lot of people say that the team might be mentally fragile. I don’t buy it.

Zolak: I don’t think they’re mentally fragile, but just not buying in early.

Beetle: You’re not the only person that has mentioned- I know you took it back – but that’s that mental fragility of the team, you know, or that he’s going easy on them. What, so that they don’t get pissed off? I mean, this is what I think it is.

Zolak: He’s fearful of losing them because they all doubt him. And maybe not all, but there are players who are doubting him.

Zolak: Well, there’s a lot of guys right now that aren’t.

Beetle: Patriots that are doubting him and doubting his decision making. And the fastest way to lose those guys is to come down hard on them right now, like, because then they’re going to say, “you know what, Bill? You put us in a bad spot and now you’re coming down hard on me. No, I’m good. I’m checking out mentally. Yeah, I’m not taking that crap.”
