Late last week, the Patriots announced special teamer and long-time team captain Matthew Slater will be returning to the team for a 16th season in 2023. We now know what that will look like financially for the team next season.

As first reported by ESPN’s Field Yates, Slater will be signing a one-year contract that will be worth up to $2.67 million with a $152,500 signing bonus. The cap hit for the contract is just $1.3 million.

  • The deal is nearly identical to the contract Slater played on last year. That was also a one-year deal worth $2.47 million. Both contract took up/will take up about 0.6 percent of the team’s total salary cap space.

With this new contract on the books, the Patriots project to have about $32.8 million in cap space moving forwards according to Patriots salary cap expert Miguel Benzan. That number does not reflect the reported re-signing of tackle Conor McDermott. The details of that contract have not yet been released.
