New England Patriots

  • It’s finally throwback week in New England. The Patriots are set to wear their classic red uniforms, and white “Pat Patriot” helmets, on Sunday against the Detroit Lions at Gillette Stadium. Watch the above video for a sneak peek at what they’ll look like.

The video features David Andrews, Christian Barmore, Kendrick Bourne, Damien Harris, Hunter Henry, Matthew Judon, Matthew Slater, and Rhamondre Stevenson in their throwback unis. No quarterbacks, as far as we could tell.

This has been years in the making, because the NFL had to change its own rules in order to allow the throwback helmets. For years, the league maintained a “one helmet per team” rule, but that has now changed to allow teams like the Patriots to go with something different.

  • The Pats are planning a whole throwback experience for Sunday’s game at Gillette Stadium, beyond just the player uniforms. The “Field Wrap,” which runs around the length of the stadium, will have a vintage look.

Same goes for the team flags that will fly as the team runs out of the tunnel, and the “rally towels” for the fans. In addition, Hall of Famer Andre Tippett will be in attendance to open the door for the Patriots to run out to the field before the game.

Sunday will mark nearly a full decade since the last time the Patriots wore their red throwback uniforms, which was on Oct. 21, 2012 against the New York Jets. Long time coming.

Anyway, there’s also a lot of football stuff to get to before this game, so we’ll be sure to keep you updated. Click here for complete New England Patriots coverage at 985TheSportsHub.com.
