The NFL Draft is still just over two months away. However, it’s starting to feel a lot like draft seasons. On Tuesday in particular, that’s because we got our first reported pre-draft meeting for the Patriots.

According to Justin Melo of The Draft Network, the Patriots have met with Lane College defensive end Andrew Farmer. The Patriots are one of 14 teams who have met with Farmer pre-draft, per Melo.

  • Farmer spent the last two seasons playing for Division-II Lane as a defensive end. In 18 career games, he totaled 44 tackles for loss with 17.5 sacks. He also had five pass breakups during those two seasons.

Since the end of the season, Farmer has been busy with the pre-draft process. He took part in the Hula Bowl last month, then in the HBCU Combine on Monday. There, he ran a 4.72 second 40-yard dash and posted a 38-inch vertical jump and 9-foot, 10-inch broad jump. He measured in at 6-foot-3, 250 pounds.

In addition, Farmer was also taken in the eighth round of the USFL rookie draft on Tuesday. Players may elect to sign with the USFL hoping to have a better chance at a roster spot, instead of taking their chance with the NFL Draft process. With this, Farmer’s draft status remains worth watching.

This is the first of what will be many reported draft meetings between the Patriots and prospects. Last year, 43 of the Patriots’ pre-draft meetings were reported. This year’s meetings will begin to be reported in bunches starting next week with the NFL Combine.
