Scott Zolak on Bill O'Brien to the Pats: "I don't know if it's going to happen"
After the reports that the Patriots have zeroed in on Bill O’Brien as the primary target for offensive coordinator, Scott Zolak says he is hearing something different.
“It’s the most logical choice to me. I don’t know if it’s going to happen. Location makes all the sense in the world, right?
He’s been in Alabama. He could come back here. And what’s the guarantee of stability? Bill [Belichick] does not like bringing guys in and have them bounce. So you’ve got to have the talk with him if he’s going to be the guy. ‘Hey, I don’t want it to be one and done. I don’t want you to come in here and make Mac great next year and then you bounce.’ This is why we’re in the position we were this year.
“What scares me is that Billy [O’Brien] likes talent. He’s worked with a lot of talent at Alabama last two years. He had Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins humming. Deshaun Watson was playing like MVP level when that all went to pot down here for whatever reason.
“But when Billy sits there and looks at ‘what am I working with? If I come in here, what am I working with? Okay, look at the tight ends. Who is number one receiver right now in the huddle?” There isn’t one.”
