On Friday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Zo immediately compared new first-round pick Christian Gonzalez to former Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

• Gonzalez is a ballplayer...

  Scott Zolak: He reminds me of Stephon Gilmore. I think you’ve got a good player.

  Marc Bertrand: I agree. I don’t think anyone’s going to disagree with that today.

  Scott Zolak: I don’t know him inside out. and I’m going to sit here and be stupid and make up all kind of fake stuff about him. I never really saw him play, but I watched a ton of the highlight packages and people talking about him. People that have been around him, guys that have worked him out, guys that watched him and actually called his games. And he’s a ballplayer. Meaning, where’s the ball? Is he back there? Is he a deep safety? Is he a boundary corner? Does he stay there? He follows the football. He’s always around the football. He tackles, he tackles low. He plays the ball at it’s high point. You got a guy with range. This is something you could add to your defense, that is already good. Your defense is good. You add him to it now and keep adding a couple more pieces. Tell you what, Steve Belicheck, Jerod Mayo, they’re going to have a lot to work with.
