The New England Patriots are 6-4 on the season after a mostly-ugly game ended with an incredible play by rookie punt returner Marcus Jones, who took it 84 yards to the house for an eventually game-winning punt return TD.

Scroll down to see that play and all the other “highlights” from the Pats’ 10-3 victory.

  • A Foxboro Miracle!

An incredible turn of events in Foxboro. Marcus Jones returns a punt 84 yards for a touchdown. The extra point is good and the Patriots are now up 109-3 with five seconds left. Barring another miracle, the Patriots will just barely escape this game with a win.

  • Judon With Another Sack

Facing third-and-12, Jets quarterback Zach Wilson takes a sack from Matthew Judon, the second of the game for the Patriots’ Defensive Player of the Year candidate. Judon is now up to 14.5 sacks, just four shy of the franchise single-season record held by Andre Tippett (18.5 in 1984).

  • Another Promising Drive, Another Collapse

The Patriots had another drive cookin’, but once again, they took steps backward right after taking steps forward. Damien Harris ripped off another big run, this time for 30 yards, then made a 15-yard catch-and-run on the following snap, to flip the field on the Jets. But a seven-yard sack and a holding penalty made it second-and-27, and ultimately had Nick Folk set up for a 43-yard field goal attempt. No good. Still 3-3.

  • HALFTIME: Patriots 3, Jets 3.

Not much to write home about offensively in that first half, but read below for stats to date from our own Alex Barth. And the unofficial offensive snap counts from myself.

  • Promising Pats Drive Ends In Missed Field Goal

The Patriots offense finally showed signs of life on their fourth offensive possession, but came up empty-handed on points. A third-down holding call on right tackle Yodny Cajuste pushed the Patriots back 10 yards, and that turned out to make a big difference, because Mac Jones was sacked for a nine-yard loss on the next play. That added up to a 44-yard attempt by Nick Folk, which clanged off the crossbar. A little closer and it would’ve been good. It looked like the wind, which is really whipping around out there today, got a hold of that one. It’s still 3-3.

There were things to like about that drive, though. Jones completed a 13-yard pass to Jakobi Meyers on third-and-6 to move the chains, then Rhamondre Stevenson made three guys miss en route to an 18-yard gain on third-and-16. But the drive stalled out from there.

  • Jets Tie It Up

Jets kicker Greg Zuerlein is good from 45 yards out. It’s now 3-3.

The spark for the Jets, here, was a 34-yard connection between Zach Wilson and Denzel Mims on a third-and-7 play. Patriots cornerback Jack Jones was tight in coverage down the field, but Mims was able to break off and adjust to the ball. The wind might’ve even knocked it down for him.

With the lack of big plays on either side of the ball so far today, that qualifies as one of the key plays of the first half.

  • Patriots Score First

After Kendrick Bourne came up just short on third down, the Patriots decided to take the three points on a 24-yard field goal by Nick Folk. Clean hold by new punter Michael Palardy. It’s now 3-0 Patriots.

  • Damien Harris With A Potential Spark

Can the Patriots cash in on this drive? Damien Harris (with good blocking from Mike Onwenu up front) has sparked the offense with a 22-yard run up the middle. As the second quarter begins, the Patriots are threatening, but it’s fourth-and-1. For now, the offense is on the field.

  • Both Teams Go Three-And-Out

Strong start for both defenses. The Jets sacked Mac Jones on the Patriots’ first play from scrimmage, then a third-down completion to Nelson Agholor was stopped well short of the first down. On the ensuing Jets possession, Zach Wilson had nowhere to go with the ball on two pass attempts, but in a sign of growth, didn’t force the ball into danger areas. Patriots linebacker Josh Uche got in Wilson’s face on third down to force a throwaway and a Jets punt.

  • Jets Win Toss, Patriots Get Ball First

The Jets won the opening coin toss and deferred. We get a look at the Patriots’ post-bye offense right out of the gate. Let’s go.

  • New Offensive Line?

Surprising development in warmups: the Patriots appear to be going with Isaiah Wynn as the starting left tackle, with Trent Brown taking backup reps. Here’s what the Patriots’ offensive line projects to be today:

    LT: Isaiah Wynn
    RG: Cole Strange
    C: David Andrews
    RG: Mike Onwenu
    RT: Yodny Cajuste

Brown on the bench may actually give the Pats more flexibility, as a guy who can play either tackle spot with more consistency than Wynn or Cajuste. This way, if either of those two struggle, Brown can come in. The Pats may also be thinking about using Brown as an extra tackle in “Jumbo” packages, which would be very interesting. Stay tuned.

  • Parker Hopeful to Play

Patriots wide receiver DeVante Parker is hopeful to play today, according to Ian Rapoport. Since this report falls short of “expected to play,” there’s still a chance Parker is inactive for one more game. But the veteran wideout appears to be nearing a return. With the Pats playing on Thanksgiving, Bill Belichick may decide to conserve Parker for that game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Injury update from Adam Schefter: Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore has been battling inflammation in his knee, which eventually necessitated his move to injured reserve. Schefter reports that Barmore does not need surgery, just “rest and rehab,” and they’re confident he can return after a four-week stint on IR.
