The Patriots will have one player representing them at the new-look Pro Bowl Games – the replacement for the Pro Bowl – in Las Vegas in early February. Matthew Judon was voted one of two starters at outside linebacker for the AFC. The full rosters can be found here.
Judon gets the nod for what has been a career year. The 30-year-old has a career-high 14.5 sacks this season, which currently ranks second in the NFL. This will be Judon’s fourth Pro Bowl in a row, and he’s now made it in both of his seasons in New England.
Based on the initial voting, Judon is the Patriots’ only representative for this year’s Pro Bowl – making it the first time since Bill Belichick’s first year with the team in 2000 the Patriots haven’t had multiple Pro Bowlers. They had none that season.
However, the team could still get addition players in as those initially elected drop out. Some notable snubs from the initial voting include running back Rhamondre Stevenson, guard Michael Onwenu, and linebacker Josh Uche.
Special teams captain Matthew Slater is also a notable absence. He has made a special teams record 10 Pro Bowls going back to 2011, with 2018 being the only other year he didn’t get voted in. Justin Hardee of the Jets got the AFC’s special teams slot.
Instead of holding a typical Pro Bowl game this year, the NFL will have “a week-long celebration of player skills featuring an exciting new format that spotlights Flag football” the week after Championship Sunday, leading up to a flag football game on Feb. 5 in Las Vegas.
