Newly-signed Patriots tight end Mike Gesicki joins an offense that, depending on who you ask, may be dealing with questions at quarterback. This offseason has featured waves of stories about how the team views incumbent starter Mac Jones, and promising backup Bailey Zappe.

Gesicki is seemingly aware of the budding quarterback controversy building in Foxborough. When asked about Jones on Thursday when speaking with Patriots media for the first time, he made sure to cover all the bases.

  • “Really cool dude. cool personality I love the energy and the juice that he brings out to some throwing sessions and all that kind of stuff. And then obviously – great arm, accurate, all that kind of stuff,” Gesicki joked. He then added “I’m making sure I check all the boxes because I know everybody’s going to want to talk about it.”

“But he’s awesome,” Gesicki continued. “Really excited to continue to work with him.”

Gesicki kept the positivity going when he was asked about Zappe. That came on the very next question.

  • “Same thing. Bailey’s awesome. Love just talking with him,” Gesicki replied. He even continued to shout out the other quarterbacks on the roster, who are currently free agency signing Trace McSorley and UDFA Malik Cunningham. “Getting to know everybody – all the quarterbacks are great. Everybody’s been very welcoming. So it’s been really exciting to kind of get to know everybody.”

If there was one time Gesicki wasn’t complimentary of his new quarterbacks, it was discussing dance moves. Gesicki and Jones both went viral for celebrating touchdown dances with the ‘Griddy’ in recent  years. Asked whose dance was better, Gesicki said “both could probably use some work.”

The Patriots are hoping both Jones and Gesicki have plenty to dance about in 2023. Gesicki, along with wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, were the team’s two high-profile offensive additions this offseason as they try to improve a unit that ranked 17th in the league in scoring last year.
