The Boston Red Sox are on a bit of a hot streak and find themselves in the hunt for a wild card spot in the American League playoffs. Matt McCarthy joined Felger and Jim Murray on Monday’s Felger and Mazz and gave his thoughts on the Red Sox recent streak and how he thinks all the wins are a bad thing.
Are the Red Sox winning too much?
Felger: How do you like your Boston Red Sox, Mattt McCarthy?
Matt McCarthy: I don’t like them. I don’t like them one bit. They’re winning a little bit too much.
Felger: Why?
Matt McCarthy: They’re winning too much and it’s going to get Chaim Bloom extended, but they’re not winning enough or I don’t think they’re capable enough of winning to actually make it worthwhile. You know what I mean? Like, here’s the thing, if I actually really believed in the Red Sox, if I believed in what they were going to do at the deadline, going out and improving the team and actually trying to win a World Series or trying to go on a nice little run in October, then I’d say this is great. They’re playing great baseball. But what good is this when the trade deadline rolls around in two weeks, if you go on a run, you beat the hell out of all these bad teams and you’re in it, to your point, Mike, you’re in it, you’re only two games out. What good is it going to do you if they kind of middle it at the trading deadline the way they’ve done it, well, really for the last three years? Like, I cannot stand the direction and the philosophy of this franchise and I just don’t believe in it. Plain and simple. So pardon me for not getting all excited over these last few weeks.
