Since the Patriots changed their uniforms prior to the 2020 season, fans have at times questioned the team’s new home look. Aside from changing the jersey and putting stripes on the shoulders, the team replaced the home silver pants with a monochromatic blue look carrying over from the Color Rush era. That look earned the uniform the nickname ‘the Blueberries’ from some.

Almost from the beginning, fans on social media have called for the team to bring back the silver pants with the blue jerseys. Two and a half years in, it looks like they’ll be getting their wish.

On Monday afternoon, ahead of the Monday Night game against the Chicago Bears – for which they’re scheduled to wear their home blue jerseys – the Patriots’ Twitter account shared a video captioned simply, ‘silver pants.’ The eight-second clip initially shows a pair of the team’s blue pants hanging in a locker, before being replaced by silver pants.

The new silver pants appear to be slightly different than what the team wore from 2000-2019. During that era, the side stripe on the pants was mostly blue with thin red lines. The new pants, which were actually worn at times during training camp this year, have all three stripes balanced which mirrors the current blue pants (the tweet below features the old blue pants).

This will be the first time the Patriots wear silver pants since the end of the 2019 season. They’ve worn blue both at home and on the road with the current uniform look, and then had one game in white pants earlier this year for throwback week for the red jerseys.

There’s no indication from the team as to whether this change is permanent, or just a one-time thing for a primetime game. The last few years have shown though that the team is willing to listen to fans when it comes to uniform-related matters, such as bringing back the Pat Patriot logo this year and even letting fans vote on elements of the gameday presentation. So if the look is warmly received Monday night, there could be a chance it returns in some capacity.

According to Chicago’s uniform schedule from the beginning of the season, the Bears will be wearing their traditional white uniforms with blue pants for this game.
