New England Patriots

  • For the second time in as many weeks, the Patriots have brought back one of their former linebackers via the practice squad. Last week the team signed Jamie Collins. Now, they’re bringing back Calvin Munson in the same fashion after hosting him for a workout on Tuesday.

This will be Munson’s third stint in New England. He was with the team on the practice squad in 2018 and 2019, then returned last year and appeared in six games, mainly in a special teams role.

  • Over what are now six NFL seasons, Munson has spent time with the Patriots, Giants, and Dolphins. He’s appeared in 42 games in that span, playing mostly on special teams since being used as a rotational linebacker as a rookie in New York.

The Patriots had an open spot on the practice squad to sign Munson after releasing offensive tackle Sebastian Gutierrez on Tuesday. There is still an open spot on the active roster though due to the team waiving wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey. It was reported following his release that Humphrey could be brought back on the practice squad once he cleared waivers, so keep an eye out for a potential promotion for a player currently on the practice squad, to fill that spot on the active roster and re-open a spot for Humphrey.
