Felger & Mazz

Following a loss to the Brooklyn Nets last Friday night, Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla said that the Nets were more analytically sound than the Celtics. On Thursday’s Felger and Mazz, Felger gave his latest thought on how he hates analytics in sports.

  • Felger hates analytics

Felger: I could really talk about this all day. I think it’s so horrible what’s happened to sports. How the freakin nerds have taken over. You asked Joe Mazzulla how they blew a 28 -point lead and he talks about the analytics. How analytically sound the Brooklyn Nets were. They were up 28-points and he said, “well, they were shooting more threes, so I thought we were in trouble”. Oh, my God. So they didn’t lose last Friday because they aren’t tough enough. Or they aren’t smart enough. Or they aren’t determined enough. None of those things. They weren’t analytically sound. They lost on Friday because they weren’t analytically sound. God, I hate that.

Mazz: That’s ridiculous. Again, it’s just so it’s. And when I say ridiculous, it’s just about the math. That’s it.

    Felger: That’s it.

Mazz: So, fellas, “run the offense. Make sure you end up with a three”. That’s it. That’s it. Just keep shooting threes.

Felger: It’s the sport, though. It’s not just you. It’s the sport.
