Some have hoped for Davante Adams to be a trade target of the Patriots this offseason, but instead the superstar wide receiver is taking shots at Bill Belichick’s coaching staff.

It’s not about the Patriots dynasty and the countless cheating allegations/punishments that often surround the franchise.

Instead it has to deal with his new teammate Jakobi Meyers, who had spent the last 4 seasons in New England after signing as a UDFA following the 2019 NFL Draft.

  • Meyers caught the most touchdowns of his career heading into free agency, accumulating 804 receiving yards over 67 catches with 6 touchdowns in 14 games. It was clear that he had the best connection with Mac Jones of any of the receivers on the roster, working as the #1 option and the security blanket.

But were the Patriots using him wrong last season as they attempted to duct tape the offense with Matt Patricia and Joe Judge leading the way? He’d join a long list of players last season to suffer a similar fate without a competent offense.

  • Meyers had no issue questioning the offense last season

  • Adams didn’t hesitate to share that opinion on Meyers’ final year in New England, saying “I didn’t see him featured as much as maybe he should have been based on what I saw when [the Patriots] came here and we practiced against them [last summer], and so far what I’ve seen from him now… he’s a pro. He’s got a lot of tools on the field, and the way he thinks about the game as a relatively young player is impressive to me, so I’m excited to work alongside him.”

It’s been an offseason full of headlines for Adams, who has also taken some shots at the Raiders following their decision to move off of his friend Derek Carr.

Still, Meyers seemed to be hurt by the way things played out between him and the Patriots, tweeting out “cold world” after Juju Smith-Schuster agreed to a deal to replace him.

  • Little bit surprising to hear someone on Josh McDaniels’ squad call out the Patriots a bit, but either way Meyers and Smith-Schuster are bound to be compared to each other all season.

If Meyers takes it to another level with his former offensive coordinator, it’ll be a bad look for a Patriots offense that never got off the ground last season.

But if Smith-Schuster breaks out and resembles the player he was with the Steelers, this could go down as one of Belichick’s best moves in recent years.

  • Jones says he’s been hitting it off with Juju Smith-Schuster…

  • Can’t forget Meyers’ infamous moment against the Raiders last season
