Zolak & Bertrand

Food has become a regular discussion point during Celtics Head Coach Joe Mazzulla’s weekly interview with the Zolak and Bertrand show.

Mazzulla has given his take on his native Rhode Island cuisine. He expressed his love of Olneyville NY System in Providence. He re-lived memories of going to D. Palmeiri’s Bakery in Johnston, RI as a child.

This week, Mazzulla shared his favorite Boston pasta dishes. He also told them which local restaurants provide these delicious meals.

  • SCOTT ZOLAK: Joe, you probably eat in the North End a lot. Do you have a favorite spot in the North End?

JOE MAZZULLA: So my wife and I have a goal to try every spot. You know, obviously Strega, I love going there. Their vodka sauce is really good at Strega. Mida in Newton is really good. That’s where I get the bucatini from with the all’amatriciana sauce you know, that’s good.

  • JOE MAZZULLA: I went to a spot in Somerville, Vinny’s at Night, that place was really good.

MARC BERTRAND: Have you ever tried the the unlimited breadsticks and salad at Olive Garden?

SCOTT ZOLAK: I ate at Olive Garden yesterday Joe. I got it to go.

JOE MAZZULLA: I’m not going to lie, since we’ve got the North End we got all the Italian food here I can’t do Olive Garden anymore.

    SCOTT ZOLAK: Camille’s in Providence.

    JOE MAZZULLA: Oh, that’s good!

  • Conversation Shifts to Pizza

HARDY: Are you familiar with the hot and ready? It’s a Little Caesar’s. It’s also Italian. Now, they don’t do a lot of pastas there. But see, the pizzas are hot and they’re ready. Hence the name hot and ready.

JOE MAZZULLA: $5.30. When I was in West Virginia, I lived like a mile from there. Get it all the time. It’s an underrated pizza place.

    MARC BERTRAND: Best pizza chain?

JOE MAZZULLA: I think it’s between Little Caesars and Domino’s

MARC BERTRAND: I would say Pizza Hut.

JOE MAZZULLA: If you get that Little Caesar’s hot and ready right off the rack it’s tough to beat
