You might not think that Massachusetts should be known for delicious barbecue spots that offer a variety of mouthwatering smoked meats and flavorful sauces, as you’d normally find the best BBQ in spots like Kansas City, St. Louis and Texas. But, while tastes can vary, we can hold our own here in the Commonwealth- so here are my Smokin’ Hot Tips for the Best BBQ in the State.

  • BT's Smokehouse (Sturbridge)

Located in central Massachusetts, BT’s Smokehouse is my personal favorite and it’s clear that it is to BBQ aficionados, and locals and visitors alike. They specialize in authentic Texas-style barbecue, offering everything from beef ribs and burnt ends to pulled pork and sausage. The smoky flavors and generous portions keep me coming back for more and it’s why I believe B.T’s Smokehouse could hold their own with any of the best BBQ served in the South or midwest.

  • Blue Ribbon BBQ (Arlington and West Newton)

Blue Ribbon BBQ has gained a reputation for its tender and flavorful meats. With a focus on slow-cooked, wood-smoked barbecue, they offer an extensive menu featuring St. Louis-style ribs, smoked chicken, pulled pork, and more. Their homemade sauces and creative sides add a delicious touch to the overall experience.

  • Sweet Cheeks Q (Boston)

This lively BBQ joint in Boston’s Fenway neighborhood serves up Southern-style barbecue with a modern twist. Helmed by chef and cookbook author Tiffani Faison, Sweet Cheeks Q features delectable dishes like buttermilk biscuits, smoked turkey, pulled pork, and mouth watering ribs.

  • Firefly's BBQ (Marlborough and Framingham)

Firefly’s BBQ is a local favorite, known for its authentic Southern barbecue and warm atmosphere. Their slow-smoked meats, including beef brisket, pulled pork, and baby back ribs, are complemented by a variety of sauces and traditional sides like cornbread, collard greens, and mac ‘n’ cheese.

  • The Smoke Shop BBQ (Cambridge, Boston, and Somerville)

This award-winning BBQ joint founded by renowned pitmaster Andy Husbands serves up a wide selection of smoked meats, including brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and chicken. Their tasty sides and indulgent desserts complement the main dishes perfectly.

And if you’re going to The Smoke Shop in Somerville, I’d definitely recommend you pop around the corner and hit Sira Naturals. Part of the Ayr Cannabis Dispensary group, this basement dispensary serves fine quality cannabis to both medical patients and adult use customers.
