Porzingis a lift off the bench
We saw a bit of a surprise before tip-off in game 1 of the NBA finals. Kristaps Porzinigs, who has started 458 of a possible 459 games in his career, came off the bench in his return and first NBA Finals. I origianally thought he had a setback when he was not in the starting lineup. Joe Mazzulla was asked before the game about managing his minutes and if would he start. It’s something I brought up during the week, the starting five with Al Horford has been rolling. He could give the bench the boost they have needed and he certainly delivered in the first quarter scoring 11 points, 3 rebounds and 3 blocks.
One other detail about Porzingis coming off the bench, in the post game press conference he mentioned presenting the scenario to Joe Mazzulla. He said he prepared for the situation and that him and Mazzulla trust each other. He went on to say he will do whatever it takes to help the team. He certainly did that in the opening game of the series. Let’s see if they do it again in game 2 Sunday.
