Patriots Bettors Lose After Safety
The Patriots are now 1-5 on the season after their 21-17 loss in Vegas to the Raiders. Going into the game, the Patriots opened as -2,5 points underdogs and closed at +3 and as high as +3.5. Mac Jones had the ball in his hands in a 19-17 game while covering the spread and a chance to win outright.
After a holding penalty, Jones pass down the sidle line was dropped by Devante Parker. The Patriots continued moving backwards as Jones was up against his own end zone. Maxx Crosby beat Mike Gesicki and Vederian Lowe for a safety to make it 21-17 and a Raiders cover.
The safety was a mixed bag for sports books. USAToday writer Ben Fawkes spoke with John Murray, executive director from Westgate SportsBook “Patriots safety was not good for us,”
Kevin Lawler, director of trading at PointsBet told Fawkes, “The safety to [end] the Pats game was most unwelcome in the PointsBet trading room,” said. “We were looking for under 37 points there, and that brought it just over the mark for us!
”Caesars Sportsbook was one of the few books Fawkes spoke with that needed the Raiders to cover, so they were pleased with the result. “We needed the Raiders, so that was beneficial for us,” Adam Pullen, assistant director of trading at Caesars.
The Patriots win total opened at 7.5 wins and dipped to 6.5 before the season started. After the loss, the Patriots season win total is now 4.5 wins at DraftKings (Disclosure: I am a compensated endorser of DraftKings.)
