Don in Carver calls in during bear encounter
If you were going to your car and went face to face with a bear, what would you do? That was the case on Wednesday night when frequent caller ‘Don in Carver‘ jumped in his car frightened after seeing the big baloo in his driveway.
Don, who announced that he is from South Boston, has never encountered a bear growing up in the city. He had the radio on sometime after 10:00pm and called into the night show for comfort. Now I’m flattered that Don called me for moral support. I’ll always be there for a listener in need.
In this time of crisis I had many questions. What kind of bear was it? Did he cook something that led the fuzzy to his home? Is there bird seed around like the Sopranos? I was curious if the bear was still outside of his car. I wanted to make sure Don was safe. I would stay on the phone with him as he walked backed in the house. But there was one problem. He left his car running and potentially face the bear again. This time, Don was determined to shut the car off and end the call.
I pleaded to stay on until he was home in his own fuzzies. He couldn’t shut the car off, the lights were flashing, the horn honking. I thought that could show attention to the bear. Don’s frustration started to show. After looking up some bear facts, we learned honking the horn was a deterrent and help ease the situation. His car would not shut off and wondered if he may need additional help.
The caller wanted to hang up in frustration, I was determined to help this man. After all, he called me for support. I have over 15 years of automotive experience. I know enough to be dangerous when it comes to the automobile. I asked Don to hit the break and see if that shuts the car off. It worked! ‘Don from Carver ‘ avoided a crisis and a bear encounter by calling into the night show with Joe.
If you are in facing a real emergency please call a specialist. But for one night, we fought off a bear and AAA.
