The 2023 PGA Championship kicks off this week and if Jordan Spieth plays (he’s currently dealing with a wrist injury) we’ll see our latest crack at completing the career grand slam, which is winning each of the four major tournaments at least once. Here’s a look at some guys who could be the next to complete the career grand slam!

  • Jordan Spieth – Needs a PGA Championship

Wells Fargo Championship - Round Two

  • Spieth is just a PGA Championship away from the career slam and he’ll have a chance to do that this week (Maybe? How’s the wrist doing?). With wins at The Masters and U.S Open in 2015 and The Open Championship in 2017, it felt like Spieth would be a grand slam champ before the 2020’s. However, he still doesn’t have it in 2023. The 2015 PGA Championship runner-up will look to become a grand slam champion at Oak Hill Country Club in 2023.

  • Phil Mickelson – Needs a U.S. Open

LIV Golf Invitational - Tulsa - Day One

  • Phil vs. the U.S. Open….one of the games’ great rivalries. The five time major champion has a record six runner-up finishes at the U.S. Open. The elusive win at what is supposed to be golf’s toughest test is the only thing that’s holding Mickelson back from the career grand slam. And as the years go by the window continues to close on Mickelson’s chance to join one of golf’s most elite clubs.

If you asked me at the start of the year if he had a chance I’d tell you he had no shot. However, that runner-up at The Masters has me thinking that the lefty could pull it off in Los Angeles in June.

  • Jon Rahm – Needs a PGA Championship and Open Championship

Mexico Open at Vidanta - Round Three

  • Rahm is still two majors away from the career grand slam, but he’ll have cracks at both of them ahead of him in 2023. The 2023 Masters champion has also ticked off a U.S. Open title and needs the PGA Championship and Open Championship. With the way he’s played in 2023, it doesn’t seem so crazy to think he could complete the slam in 2023.

  • Dustin Johnson – Needs a PGA Championship and Open Championship

LIV Golf Invitational - Tulsa - Day Three

  • DJ is in the exact same spot as Rahm, needing a PGA Championship and Open Championship title. Can he do it? Absolutely. But I just can’t see Johnson winning two majors in 2023.

  • Brooks Koepka – Needs an Open Championship and a Masters

LIV Golf Invitational - Tulsa - Day Two

  • After a couple down years due to injury I didn’t think we’d ever see Koepka win a major title again. He proved me wrong by staying in contention throughout much of the 2023 Masters. Koepka needs an Open Championship title and a Masters win to complete the grand slam, so he’ll have to wait until 2024 at the earliest to complete the slam. But there’s no question that he has the ability to do it.

  • Rory McIlroy – Needs to win The Masters

Wells Fargo Championship - Round Three

  • Will Rory McIlroy ever win The Masters? All that is left for the Northern Irishman is a Green Jacket. McIlroy has had nine attempts to complete the career grand slam at Augusta National and he’s come up short every time. He’ll have to wait until 2024 for his chance to complete the slam after a missed cut at The Masters in 2023.
