New England Patriots

As the NFL pre-draft process gets into full swing with this week’s NFL Combine, the Patriots are adding to their scouting staff. On Thursday morning, NFL insider Aaron Wilson reported the team is adding former Panthers vice president of player personnel Pat Stewart to its scouting department. No specific role for Stewart was given.

This won’t be Stewart’s first time working for the Patriots. After beginning his career working in personnel at the college level, he joined the Patriots in 2007 as an area scout. He held that role for most of his time in New England, but spent three years as a pro scout from 2010-2012.

  • Stewart left the Patriots in 2018 to take a job as a national scout for the Eagles. He then moved on to the Panthers in 2020, joining head coach Matt Rhule who he’d worked with in his time in college. His role in Carolina was director of player personnel, which is basically an assistant GM. He was let go by the Panthers – who fired Rhule during the season – last month.

According to Wilson’s report, the Patriots weren’t the only team trying to hire Stewart. He “drew interest around NFL, including from former Patriots executives who are now GMs,” Wilson noted.
