NEW YORK - NOVEMBER 26: People shop in Macy's department store November 26, 2004 in New York City. Are you a guy that hates holiday shopping? You’re not alone. But there’s one big benefit… Checking out some good eats!

‘Tis the season for lights, music, and the annual holiday shopping adventure. While some enjoy the festive spirit, many guys dread crowded malls and deciphering wish lists. Welcome to the world of holiday shopping for men – a mix of emotions, challenges, and occasional triumphs. Mix it all together… A time of pure suck-ery!

For dudes (like me), holiday shopping feels like navigating an obstacle course. From decoding subtle hints to battling unruly gift wrap, the season tests patience and resilience. The pressure to find the perfect gift, one that truly delights, can be overwhelming.

Yet, amid the chaos, there’s a glimmer of redemption – the chance to discover new restaurants you’d normally wouldn’t see yourself go to, or even a place to eat you haven’t experienced in a long time. For some, the only solace in shopping lies in the anticipation of a meal at a favorite restaurant. It’s a moment to unwind, refuel, and perhaps find a hidden gem.

I’m going to highlight some restaurants to check out, like KARMA at the Burlington Mall and the Smoke Shop at Assembly Row while navigating the holiday season, turning the shopping ordeal into something that’s more of a minor inconvenience.

HERE’S THE DEFINITIVE LIST OF RESTAURANTS TO CHECK OUT THIS HOLIDAY SEASON:

  • KARMA ASIAN FUSION - BURLINGTON MALL

Full disclosure… The folks at Karma invited the Gemelli’s to try out some fusion cuisine this past weekend. Since we were already planning a trip to the Burlington Mall, we thought, “Why not?” Here’s the scoop: it was absolutely delicious! Karma’s award-winning sushi is just what you need for a quick and fresh bite during your holiday shopping at the Mall. Plus, they serve some fantastic craft cocktails that work wonders to soothe those shopping nerves!

With four locations, the Burlington branch is a must-visit, especially during this holiday season. It’s the sole spot in the state where you can enjoy their collection of high-quality Japanese whiskey!

  • SULLIVAN’S - HANOVER CROSSING

Sullivan’s is now located at Hanover Crossing, situated where the Hanover Mall use to stand (rest in peace). Their burgers, hot dogs, and rolls are consistently fresh and never frozen and prioritizing top-quality ingredients.

Try the french fries with vinegar… or don’t!

  • ANDY HUSBAND’S SMOKE SHOP - ASSEMBLY ROW

After shopping, check out the Smoke Shop. Their tasty BBQ might leave you a bit sleepy, just like it does for me! The restaurant’s style is inspired by Andy Husband’s years of BBQ competition, and they have the largest American whiskey collection in New England.

  • SOUTHSIDE TAVERN - Near South Shore Plaza

SouthSide Tavern Restaurant in Braintree consistently ranks as the top restaurant in Braintree and the best bar in the South Shore. Although it’s not right next to the the South Shore Plaza, but they serve a full lunch and dinner menu. They also got hometown-themed drinks you’ll enjoy, especially if you’re from the area. You’ll probably need it after adventuring to the Plaza during this time of year!

  • RIVER BAR - Assembly Row

River Bar is all about serving up clever, lively, and downright enjoyable food. It’s your perfect escape from the holiday crowd. Sip on a cocktail, munch on those tasty fried sweet potatoes, and soak in the vibes.

  • SYLVAN STREET GRILLE - Near Northshore Mall

Sylvan Street Grille is your go-to spot, whether you’re unwinding after a shopping spree at the Northshore Mall or catching the game with your buddies. Not only is it a fantastic place for grabbing a beer, but it’s also a top choice for some of the best seafood on the North Shore, but their menu has something for everyone.
