Over the weekend, it was reported the Patriots plan to bring back pending free agent linebacker Raekwon McMillan in 2023. On Monday, we learned the details of his new contract.

According to Doug Kyed of AtoZ Sports, McMillan’s deal is for one year, and worth up to $1.6 million. $575,000 of the contract is guaranteed. He’ll count $1.58 million against the salary cap in 2023.

  • This is McMillan’s third contract with the Patriots. The team first signed him in 2021, but he tore his ACL in training camp and missed the entire season. Despite that, he got a contract extension keeping him with the team through 2022. Last season he appeared in 16 games playing 23 percent of the time on defense and 64 percent of the time on special teams.

Re-signing McMillan gives the Patriots depth at the middle linebacker spot behind Ja’Whaun Bentley. Those two are the only two players at the position currently under contract. Mack Wilson, who was with the team last year, remains a pending free agent.

So far, most of Patriots free agency has consisted of them re-signing their own pending free agents. For updates on the Patriots and the rest of the league, follow our Free Agency Tracker.
