Ryder Cup week is finally here, one of my favorite weeks of the year and this year Team USA might be the underdogs on paper looking to break a 30 year losing streak in Europe.
On paper Team USA is probably the weakest team we’ve seen in years but they head to Italy with their eyes set on snapping a 30 year losing streak on European soil.
Sam Burns
Burns was probably the last golfer of the 12 Americans chosen to be on the Ryder Cup team, Burns is 27 years old and has 5 PGA tour wins with his biggest coming in March of this year winning the WGC-Dell Technologies match play. Burns is the 20th ranked golfer in the world according to OWGR (official world golf rankings) I’d look for him to be paired with Scottie Scheffler as the two are close and have played a ton of golf together.
Patrick Cantlay
Cantlay was one of the 6 automatic qualifiers for the USA team, he finished top 25 in 12 of his 15 starts this year, including top 15’s at 3 of the 4 majors this year. If you’re familiar with golf you know Cantlay for his slow play but he’s much more than that as one of the more consistent American golfers of the last couple years. He also has a stellar Ryder Cup record of 3-0-1 which he’ll look to build on in Rome.
Brian Harman
Harman is making his Ryder cup debut after winning the Open at Royal Liverpool last month to go along with 3 runner up finishes this season. Harman is 36 and playing the best golf of his life, team USA will need him to continue his great form if they’re going to have a shot to win. Harman is one of the few golfers on the US squad who’s golf game may play more to the European course style they’ll find themselves at in Italy.
