It’s been a week since Chaim Bloom and the Red Sox designated veteran reliever Ryan Brasier for assignment.

And while the decision to ‘DFA’ the 35-year-old felt like a one that was at least a year in the making based on performance alone, the team and Brasier have officially cut ties, with the righty officially released on Sunday, according to the team.

  • Called out of the bullpen for 20 appearances this season, Brasier compiled a 1-0 record with one save and one hold, but was knocked around for 24 hits and 17 earned runs in 21 innings pitched.

Brasier also posted a 7.29 ERA and batters hit .286 off him in 2023, topping a previous career-worst set in 2022 (.280).

In action for 68 appearances last year, Brasier allowed 40 earned runs and 68 hits in 62.1 innings of work, and posted a career-worst 5.78 ERA and surrendered nine home runs, which tied a career-worst previously established in 2019.

  • With the Red Sox for the last six seasons, Brasier burst onto the scene during the 2018 campaign, and was a hidden gem of sorts, with two wins, 10 holds, and a 1.60 ERA in 33.2 innings over 34 appearances for Boston.

Brasier kept that rolling in the postseason, too, and was borderline unhittable in Boston’s ALDS win over the Yankees and ALCS series victory over the Astros.

Overall, the Texas-born pitcher struck out 211 batters in 209.2 innings of work and posted a 4.55 ERA in 222 games.
