Felger & Mazz

The golf world has been shaken by the news that the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and Public Investment Fund (PIF) have agreed to a merger. The LIV Tour is a part of the PIF, which means the PGA Tour players and LIV players will be back together at some point. On Wednesday’s Felger and Mazz, Felger talked about how the news is bringing him back to golf.

  • Felger's Thoughts on the Deal

Felger: I’ve got to tell you, this has brought me a little back to golf. At least there’s something here. And as opposed to these milk toast, lily white, “Iron Byron”, that’s what I call them, all these country club kids with the exact same swing who never say anything or give me any sort of edge. You know, Jordan Spieth and who’s the latest? Mark Scheffler? What’s his name?

    Mazz: Oh, Scottie Scheffler.

Felger: Like one cardboard cutout after the next. Like, Oh, my God. I have found the PGA Tour so flippin boring for so long.

Mazz: But how does that change? It’s the same players.

Jim Murray: Well, it pitted these guys against each other. And so it’s actually made Brooks Koepka to me kind of likable because Kopeka is kind of a dick in a funny way.

Felger: Watchable! He’s watchable. I mean, there’s some edge.

Jim Murray: There’s a real person there.

Felger: There’s depth to what he is. And maybe he’s a bad guy. Whatever. Golf needs that. Golf needs it. It needs personality. It needs good guys, bad guys. Guys to root for, guys to root against.
