The Patriots briefly had an open roster spot on Thursday after releasing offensive tackle Yodny Cajuste. They filled it quickly though, adding a fourth undrafted rookie to their roster.

According to Doug Kyed of AtoZ Sports, the Patriots have signed defensive tackle Justus Tavai to their 90-man roster. Kyed added the signing comes after ‘a successful tryout’ with the team.

  • Tavai is the brother of current Patriots linebacker Jahlani Tavai. Their other brother, Jonah Tavai, also played at San Diego State and signed with the Seahawks as a UDFA last month.

Justus Tavai spent four seasons at Hawaii before transferring to SDSU last year. In his lone season with the Aztecs, Tavai recorded five tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in 11 games, as well as an interception and two pass breakups.

At 6-foot-3, 290 pounds projects as a multi-positional defensive lineman. He should compete for a reserve role with the Patriots in camp.
