The Chiefs are adding to their defensive line to close out the first round. They’ve taken Kansas State defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah – a Kansas City native.

Since the Miami Dolphins were docked their first-round pick over their tampering violations with Tom Brady and Sean Payton, the Chiefs’ pick was the final selection of the first round. That does it for night 1 of the NFL Draft!

  • Eagles Take LB Nolan Smith 30th Overall

Former Georgia OLB Nolan Smith is headed to the defending NFC Champion Eagles, who also added DT Jalen Carter earlier in the draft. The Eagles now have those two, Nakobe Dean, and Jordan Davis from the Bulldogs’ championship defense in 2021.

  • Saints Take DT Bryan Bresee 29th Overall

The Saints add to their defensive line at 29. Bryan Bresee joins former Clemson teammate Myles Murphy as the second straight player out of that school to come off the board.

  • Bengals Take DE Myles Murphy 28th Overall

Cincinnati is pretty well-set on offense, so they had an opportunity to upgrade on the other side of the ball. That’s why they’re taking Myles Murphy, who should be able to get snaps right away in the Bengals front-seven. Pressure on the QB was an area the Bengals could still stand to improve, and Murphy has a chance to make a big impact in that department.

  • Jaguars Take OT Anton Harrison 27th Overall

Sep 10, 2022; Norman, Oklahoma, USA; Oklahoma Sooners offensive lineman Anton Harrison (71) in action during the game against the Kent State Golden Flashes at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Credit: Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The Jaguars have plenty of pieces in place around quarterback Trevor Lawrence, but they could’ve used another tackle after losing Jawaan Taylor in free agency. So it makes sense to take Anton Harrison and make an effort to keep their franchise QB protected.

  • Cowboys Take DT Mazi Smith 26th Overall

GLENDALE, ARIZONA - DECEMBER 31: Mazi Smith #58 of the Michigan Wolverines celebrates after recovering a fumble during the third quarter against the TCU Horned Frogs in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl at State Farm Stadium on December 31, 2022 in Glendale, Arizona. (Photo by Norm Hall/Getty Images)

The Cowboys address their front-seven this year. They’ve taken Michigan interior defender Mazi Smith, who has a chance to immediately be a new cornerstone player on the Dallas defensive line.

  • Bills Take TE Dalton Kincaid 25th Overall

TEMPE, ARIZONA - SEPTEMBER 24: Tight end Dalton Kincaid #86 of the Utah Utes catches a 29-yard touchdown reception ahead of linebacker Connor Soelle #18 of the Arizona State Sun Devils during the first half of the NCAAF game at Sun Devil Stadium on September 24, 2022 in Tempe, Arizona. (Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images)

Josh Allen gets a new toy. The Bills are selecting Utah tight end Dalton Kincaid with the 25th overall pick. Buffalo just signed TE Dawson Knox to a four-year extension last September, so it’s interesting to see them double-dip at this position in the first round.

  • TRADE! Bills Move Up To 25

Another one! The Bills are on the clock after trading up to pick 25. The Jaguars trade down again, acquiring picks 27 and 130 from Buffalo.

  • Giants Select CB Deonte Banks 24th Overall

The Giants moved up one spot to snag some help for their secondary. Maryland’s Deonte Banks was arguably the best cornerback available on the board, and will have a chance to make an immediate impact in New York.

  • TRADE! Giants Move Up To 24

The Giants have traded up to the 24th pick, sending picks 5 and 160 to the Jaguars, per Field Yates.

  • Vikings Take WR Jordan Addison 23rd Overall

The run on receivers continues. The Minnesota Vikings are adding another wideout to their arsenal behind Justin Jefferson, with USC’s Jordan Addison. After the first 19 picks went without a WR being taken, the last four in a row have now all been WRs.

  • Ravens Take WR Zay Flowers 22nd Overall

Fresh off reaching an agreement on a new contract with franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson, they are giving him a potential franchise inside receiver. Boston College standout Zay Flowers is staying in the northeast, but with the Ravens, where he has a great opportunity in front of him to play with Jackson and possibly become his No. 1 target at the receiver position. Flowers is more of a slot receiver than an outside guy, but a very explosive one, so he can still be a star.

  • Chargers Take WR Quentin Johnston 21st Overall

Quentin Johnston played in the national championship game for TCU, and now he’s a first-round receiver in the NFL. With Keenan Allen aging and Mike Williams looking less like a long-term option, it feels like it was time to invest in this position for years to come. Quarterback Justin Herbert gets a fresh new weapon.

  • Seahawks Take WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba 20th Overall

Ohio State WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba carries the ball in the open field. (Kyle Robertson/Columbus Dispatch via Imagn Content Services)

Finally, a wide receiver comes off the board. Ohio State’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba was considered the best all-around prospect at the position, so it makes sense that he is the first WR off the board to Seattle.

  • Bucs Draft DT Calijah Kancey

PITTSBURGH, PA - SEPTEMBER 24: Calijah Kancey #8 of the Pittsburgh Panthers reacts after sacking Kasim Hill #8 of the Rhode Island Rams during the fourth quarter at Acrisure Stadium on September 24, 2022 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Joe Sargent/Getty Images)

The next Aaron Donald? Calijah Kancey has drawn comparisons to the future Hall of Fame DT because of his similar size and the fact they both played college ball at Pittsburgh. We’ll see if Kancey approaches Donald’s level of greatness, but the Bucs clearly think they’re adding an impact interior defender here.

  • Lions Select LB Jack Campbell 18th Overall

The Lions stay put at the 18th pick and draft a hard-nosed new linebacker in Jack Campbell out of Iowa.

  • Patriots Take CB Christian Gonzalez 17th Overall

The Patriots have made their selection at 17th overall, and they chose to address the cornerback position. They are selecting Oregon CB Christian Gonzalez, according to multiple reports.

Described by Alex Barth as the best cornerback in the 2023 draft class, Gonzalez stands at 6-foot-1 and 197 pounds. He’s described at NFL.com as an “explosive outside cornerback possessing a rare blend of physical and athletic traits.”

Between Gonzalez, Marcus Jones, and Jack Jones, the Patriots have one of the most impressive stables of young cornerbacks in the NFL. They could still stand to add a wide receiver at some point in the draft, but equipping themselves to stop other teams’ top receivers was a priority as well. This pick should receive mostly high marks from analysts.

  • Commanders Take CB Emmanuel Forbes 16th Overall

Sep 10, 2022; Tucson, Arizona, USA; Mississippi State Bulldogs cornerback Emmanuel Forbes (13) against the Arizona Wildcats at Arizona Stadium. Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Oregon cornerback Christian Gonzalez continues to fall in the draft. The Commanders have passed on him and instead taken Emmanuel Forbes out of Mississippi State.

And the Patriots are on the clock again…

  • Jets Take DE Will McDonald 15th Overall

AMES, IA - SEPTEMBER 4: Defensive end Will McDonald IV #9 of the Iowa State Cyclones sacks quarterback Will McElvain #2 of the Northern Iowa Panthers as he scrambles for yards in the first half of play at Jack Trice Stadium on September 4, 2021 in Ames, Iowa. (Photo by David Purdy/Getty Images)

In what feels like a reach, the Jets are selecting Iowa State edge rusher Will McDonald 15th overall. McDonald certainly had potential to go in the first round, but there are higher-touted prospects still on the board, with the Patriots now two picks away at 17…

  • Steelers Take OT Broderick Jones 14th Overall

The Steelers get their new left tackle. Broderick Jones could have easily become a Patriot here, but Bill Belichick and Matt Groh instead opted to move down to 17 and accumulate another pick. And Pats fans still have to wait…

  • TRADE! Patriots Move Down

The Patriots have traded the 14th pick to the Steelers for picks 17 and 120, according to Field Yates.

  • Packers Take DE Lukas Van Ness 13th Overall

AMES, IA - SEPTEMBER 11: Running back Breece Hall #28 of the Iowa State Cyclones is tackled by defensive lineman Lukas Van Ness #91 of the Iowa Hawkeyes as Hall rushed for yards in the first half of play at Jack Trice Stadium on September 11, 2021 in Ames, Iowa. (Photo by David Purdy/Getty Images)

The Packers are making an upgrade to their pass-rush. Van Ness was known as more of a situational pass-rusher than a three-down player at Iowa, but he has enough physical gifts to make an impact in the more important area of pressuring quarterbacks. He was bandied about as a possibility for the Patriots, but instead, he goes one pick before.

And the Patriots are now on the clock…

  • Lions Take RB Jahmyr Gibbs 12th Overall

BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA - NOVEMBER 05: Jahmyr Gibbs #1 of the Alabama Crimson Tide runs with the ball as Greg Penn III #30 of the LSU Tigers defends during the first half at Tiger Stadium on November 05, 2022 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. (Photo by Jonathan Bachman/Getty Images)

A surprise pick (and probably a reach) for Dan Campbell’s Lions: they are drafting Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs with the 12th overall pick. Gibbs was not widely considered a first-round level of prospect, so to see him go at 12 is a bit of a shock. But you’d think he’ll be a popular fantasy pick as a rookie.

  • Titans Take OL Peter Skoronski 11th Overall

    Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

Oct 22, 2022; College Park, Maryland, USA; Northwestern Wildcats offensive lineman Peter Skoronski (77) prepares to block against the Maryland Terrapins at SECU Stadium. Credit: Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

Instead of heading to his hometown Bears, Peter Skoronski is headed a little farther south to Nashville, where he should step in and start somewhere for the Tennessee Titans immediately. The knock on Skoronski is that he may not have the ideal frame or arm length to be an NFL-level left tackle, but he would be an elite guard.

  • Patriots Not Expected To Draft QB Will Levis

    Will Levis Kentucky

Will Levis #7 of the Kentucky Wildcats throws the ball during the second half against the Miami (Oh) Redhawks at Kroger Field on September 3, 2022 in Lexington, Kentucky. Levis led the Wildcats to a 7-5 regular season record.

According to Jeff Howe, the Patriots are NOT expected to draft Kentucky QB Will Levis if he is even available at pick No. 14. The Pats held a late pre-draft meeting with Levis prior to tonight.

  • Bears Take OT Darnell Wright 10th Overall

Tennessee offensive lineman Darnell Wright (58) during football game between Tennessee and Ball State at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn. on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022. (Jamar Coach/News Sentinel/USA Today Network)

Tennessee offensive lineman Darnell Wright (58) during football game between Tennessee and Ball State at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn. on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022. (Jamar Coach/News Sentinel/USA Today Network)

The Bears had a chance to make a pick in their backyard with Northwestern OL Peter Skoronski, who is from Illinois. Instead they go with Tennessee OT Darnell Wright. Perhaps they don’t view Skoronski as a tackle at the NFL level but more of a guard.

The Patriots are now just four picks away…

  • Eagles Take DT Jalen Carter 9th Overall

Nov 19, 2022; Lexington, Kentucky, USA; Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Jalen Carter (88) celebrates during the second quarter against the Kentucky Wildcats at Kroger Field. Credit: Jordan Prather-USA TODAY Sports

The Eagles have addressed their defense after trading up one spot from 10th to 9th, selecting Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter. Carter had some legal trouble earlier in the off-season, but reportedly will avoid any possible jail time after entering a plea deal. That obviously didn’t affect his draft stock all that much, as Carter ended up in the top-10 anyway and will have a chance to make an immediate impact in an aging front-seven in Philadelphia.

  • TRADE! Eagles Move Up One Spot

The Eagles and Bears have swapped the ninth and 10th picks. The Bears get No. 10 and a fourth-rounder in 2024, per Field Yates.

  • Falcons Select RB Bijan Robinson 8th Overall

    syndication

Texas RB Bijan Robinson is expected to be a first-round pick, but probably not as high as his abilities might suggest.
    Syndication Detroit Free Press

The Falcons just drafted the highest running back since Saquon Barkley went second overall in 2018. Most people will view this pick as a reach, factoring in positional value. But Texas RB Bijan Robinson’s talent is among the best in the whole draft, so he should immediately start and get a lot of touches in Atlanta.

  • Raiders Select DE Tyree Wilson 7th Overall

Sep 3, 2022; Lubbock, Texas, USA; Texas Tech Red Raiders defensive end Tyree Wilson (19) waits for play to resume in the first half against the Murray State Racers at Jones AT&T Stadium and Cody Campbell Field. Credit: Michael C. Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Quarterback Will Levis was there for Josh McDaniels and Raiders GM Dave Ziegler, who instead pass on him and address their defense instead. That unit certainly struggled in 2022, so you can’t blame McDaniels for wanting to add an impact player there. But McDaniels will have to hope he doesn’t regret not taking a QB.

  • Cardinals Select OT Paris Johnson 6th Overall

EVANSTON, ILLINOIS - NOVEMBER 05: Paris Johnson Jr. #77 of the Ohio State Buckeyes in action against the Northwestern Wildcats during the first half at Ryan Field on November 05, 2022 in Evanston, Illinois. (Photo by Michael Reaves/Getty Images)

The Cardinals traded up to get their next franchise left tackle. Paris Johnson Jr. out of Ohio State emerged as the consensus best tackle prospect in the draft after a great Combine. As long as he stays healthy, he should be a plug-and-play starter and eventually an elite blindside protector in Arizona.

  • TRADE! Cardinals Move Back Up

The Cardinals have moved back up the draft board, this time to No. 6 overall. They traded picks 12, 34, and 168 to the Lions for 6 and 81, according to Field Yates.

  • Seahawks Select CB Devon Witherspoon 5th Overall

    Syndication

A big move for the Seahawks secondary. It appears Pete Carroll really is trying to rebuild the “Legion of Boom,” going with the first cornerback off the board in Illinois’ Devon Witherspoon. Witherspoon is known as a skilled and highly competitive outside corner, if not as spectacular physically as others drafted so high. But Carroll and the Seahawks should know how to use him and use him well.

  • Colts Select QB Anthony Richardson 4th Overall

GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA - OCTOBER 15: Anthony Richardson #15 of the Florida Gators looks to pass during the first half of a game against the LSU Tigers at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on October 15, 2022 in Gainesville, Florida. (Photo by James Gilbert/Getty Images)

Three quarterbacks in the first four picks. Anthony Richardson out of Florida is headed to the Colts. Richardson is big and he’s a big talent, and has drawn comparisons to Josh Allen. We’ll see if he gets the right coaching from new head coach Shane Steichen, and the right pieces around him to be put in the best position to succeed. If all goes well, Richardson could be an elite guy, but he’s more of a boom-or-bust prospect than Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud.

  • Texans Select Will Anderson Jr. 3rd Overall

The Texans follow up their quarterback pick with a big defensive pick. Will Anderson Jr. was considered by some the best overall player in the draft, regardless of position. He has a chance to be a generational front-seven force in the NFL. The Texans are going hard for their cornerstones on each side of the ball. That will be fascinating to watch in Houston.

  • TRADE! Texans Move Up To 3rd

According to Adam Schefter, the Texans are on the clock again, because they just traded up to the No. 3 overall pick. The Cardinals trade the third and 105th picks away for picks 12 and 33, and first- and third-round picks in 2024.

  • Texans Select QB C.J. Stroud 2nd Overall

FOXBORO, MA - SEPTEMBER 14: Tom Brady #12 of the New England Patriots passes the ball as Marcus Stroud #99 of the Buffalo Bills defends on September 14, 2009 at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts. The Patriots defeated the Bills 25-24. (Photo by Elsa/Getty Images)

Nick Caserio has taken a dive on a quarterback. C.J. Stroud went into the draft as arguably the best mix of size (6-foot-3) and physical talent, especially throwing the ball. That bodes well for his ability to translate his skills from Ohio State to the pros. There may be an adjustment period, and we’ll see if Caserio can even put a team around him. But Stroud has franchise potential.

  • Panthers Select Bryce Young First Overall
