One of the members of the Patriots’ massive 2021 free agency class is officially heading elsewhere. On Friday, wide receiver Nelson Agholor signed with the Baltimore Ravens.

Agholor’s signing was first reported by Jordan Schultz of The Score. ESPN’s Adam Schefter later added that Agholor is getting a one-year deal from Baltimore worth up to $3.25 million.

  • After a career year with the Raiders in 2020, Agholor signed a two-year, $26 million contract with the Patriots prior to the 2021 season. However, he failed to live up to the production he had in Las Vegas. In 2021 he caught 37 passes for 473 yards and three touchdowns, then last season his numbers dropped with 31 catches for 362 yards and two touchdowns.

Agholor’s departure doesn’t come as a surprise. His playing time decreased late last season, and there had been no reports about him and the team working on a new contract. Agholor is the second wide receiver to leave in free agency, after Jakobi Meyers signed with the Raiders last week.

The Patriots still have depth at receiver with players like Kendrick Bourne, DeVante Parker, Tyquan Thornton, and recently-signed JuJu Smith-Schuster. They’re likely more focused on adding a receiver who would jump to the top of the depth chart than another who mix into that rotation.

In Baltimore, Agholor joins a team in a state of uncertainty. Quarterback Lamar Jackson remains essentially a restricted free agent after being franchise tagged by the Ravens earlier this month.
