With the 2024 Paris Olympics coming up shortly, it’s time to take a look at the 20 athletes from the commonwealth of Massachusetts who are heading to Paris to represent the United States. Massachusetts has an illustrious Olympic history ranking 21st in gold medals by state tied with Arkansas and Virginia. So let’s take a look at the twenty athletes from around the state hoping to add to Massachusetts and Team USA’s olympic history.

  • Kristi Wagner-rowing

    Kristi Wagner will be part of the United States rowing team at the 2024 games. Wagner is 31 years old and this will be her second Olympics. She came in fifth in the Tokyo games in 2020. Wagner has won a bronze medal on the world championship stage and listed Michael Jordan as one of her inspirations in sports. She is a graduate of Yale university and is from Weston Massachusetts.

  • Alexandra Hammel – Field Hockey
    Hammel is 28 years old from Duxbury Massachusetts. Alexandra will be part of team USA’s field hockey team. She was part of the Pan American games in 2023 in a silver medal with team USA. Hammel will look to add an olympic medal to her resume in Paris.
  • Eli Dershwitz 28 – fencing
     
    Dershwitz is a two-time Olympian from Boston, Massachusetts a graduate of Harvard. Eli credits his brother for getting him into fencing, his best result was an eighth at the 2020 games in Tokyo. On the world championship stage Eli captured gold in the 2023 games and has been competing in the individuals since 2011.
  • Margaret Hedeman – Concord
    Hedman began rowing in 2014 at community rowing on the Charles river in Boston. Her sister is on the under 19 national team. She was a 2020, 2022 and 2023 scholar athlete and a 2023 first time all Ivy League selection out of Yale, her most recent world championship experience she won a silver medal in the 2023 games.
  • Emilie Eldracher – 24 pararowing
    Eldracher is from Andover Massachusetts. She will be competing in the Paralympics for the pararowing team. Emilie was introduced to rowing through an introductory class in the fall season during her freshman year of high school.
  • Henry Hollingsworth 26 rowing – Dover MA
    Hollingsworth comes from a family of rowers. His cousin Andrew Reid rowed in the Olympic Games in 2020 in Tokyo. He went to Brown University and received academic all Ivy recognition and was a second team IRCA all American.
  • Alex Flynn 20 pararowing
    Alex is 20 years old from Danvers Massachusetts a student at Tufts University his most recent championship experience came in 2023 where he captured a silver medal in the PR3 Coxed four games.
  • Fred Richard gymnastics – Stoughton MA
    Fred is a 20-year-old student at the University of Michigan from Stoughton Massachusetts. His favorite event in the Olympics  is the high bar and he got into gymnastics because he would run on the floor and tumble when picking up his sister from gymnastics class. His world championship experience includes a bronze medal in the men’s all around in the 2023 games.
  • Ruby Remati, artistic swimming – Andover
    Remati is a 21-year-old athlete out of Andover Massachusetts a student at Ohio State University. She credits her parents for getting her into synchronized swimming and has some world championship experience at the 2019 games.
  • Kristi Kirshe – rugby
    Kirshe is 29 years old out of Franklin Massachusetts. She graduated from Williams college and began playing rugby at 23 years old after a career in soccer at Williams.  She is one time Olympian playing for team USA at the 2020 games in Tokyo where the team came in sixth place.
