  • Jayson Tatum is getting a day off for the Celtics on Sunday, but it doesn’t appear to be anything serious.

The Celtics announced Saturday that Tatum will be out on Sunday against the Orlando Magic due to personal reasons. Despite the ominous report, there doesn’t seem to be reason to be concerned about Tatum or his family. In fact, they were celebrating the fifth birthday of Jayson’s son Deuce, as Jayson revealed via Snapchat.

So, presumably, Tatum is getting a game off to spend time with loved ones. You’d think fans and media around here will understand, especially this time of year, but you never know with this city.

  • It’s reasonable for the Celtics to take any opportunity they can to rest Tatum in a game that should be winnable without him. Despite that, the Magic beat the C’s anyway on Friday night at TD Garden, even with Tatum scoring 31 points. So they will have to get their revenge with Jaylen Brown leading the way offensively.

Nobody else who played for the Celtics Friday was listed on the injury report, so it appears everyone other than Tatum is good to go against Orlando. That includes center Robert Williams III, who made his long-awaited return from knee surgery in the previous game.

The Celtics take on the Magic at 2:30 p.m. ET at TD Garden. With the New England Patriots set to face the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, the C’s will be broadcast on the Sports Hub’s sister station, 105.7 WROR.
