Felger & Mazz

Greg Bedard of BostonSportsJournal.com joined the Felger and Mazz program on Tuesday, as he does every week to discuss the Patriots and the NFL games from the past week. While on, Greg Bedard did his weekly “10 Questions” segment on the program following week 18 of the 2023 NFL season…

Before the 10 questions, here are some stats from around the NFL courtesy of NFL.com

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa led all passers in passing yards in 2023 with 4,624 yards, while Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott led all passers with 36 passing touchdowns.

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey led all rushers in 2023 with 1,459 rushing yards, while Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert led all rushers with 18 rushing touchdowns.

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill led all receivers in receiving yards in 2023 with 1,799 and he tied with Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans in touchdown receptions with 13.

Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey made the most field goals in 2023 with 36. Aubrey converted 36 of the 38 field goals he attempted. His longest made field goal was a 60 yard kick.

The Carolina Panthers finished the season with the worst record in the NFL going 2-15. Their 2-15 mark was two games worse than the Washington Commanders, New England Patriots, and Arizona Cardinals. The Panthers first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft belongs to the Chicago Bears, who acquired the pick in a 2023 trade that gave the Panthers the first overall pick in the 2023 draft.

The Baltimore Ravens finished the season with the best record in the NFL going 13-4. Their 13-4 record was one better than the San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, and Detroit Lions.

Super Bowl 58 will be played on Sunday February 11th, 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada at Allegiant Stadium. Allegiant Stadium is the home of the Las Vegas Raiders and will play host to its first Super Bowl. This will be th ethird consecutive Super Bowl west of the Mississippi.

    10. Who should be the league MVP this year?

    Greg Bedard: Lamar Jackson.

    9. What player was the biggest failure?

Greg Bedard: Aaron Rodgers. I mean, he’s just bringing that franchise down. Let alone what’s happened in the past week with Jimmy Kimmel and all that stuff.

    8. What was your favorite team to watch?

Greg Bedard: Just to watch, the Dolphins. Because of their offense and Tyreek Hill and I like that Mike McDaniel isn’t afraid to go for it and just leave it out there. I just had fun watching them.

    7. Who was the biggest failure as a team?

Greg Bedard: I thought it was the Seahawks. I thought they had a chance to really do some things. Geno Smith played really well last year, none of it worked on offense and the defense went downhill. They should definitely be in the playoffs and should have been a factor this year.

    6. Do you like the state of the league after the 2023 regular season?

Greg Bedard: No. Not with quarterbacks getting hurt, injuries seem to be even more and more of a factor. The officiating there was something every week. No I don’t like it.

  • GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN - NOVEMBER 19: Head coach Brandon Staley of the Los Angeles Chargers watches action during a game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on November 19, 2023 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers defeated the Chargers 23-20. (Photo by Stacy Revere/Getty Images)

    5. Who was the biggest toolbag in 2023?

Greg Bedard: Brandon Staley. I mean he was just awful at his job. Went for it on fourth down all the time. Started getting into it with the media in his press conferences. Like go back to being a coordinator for the rest of year.

  • San Francisco 49ers v Washington Commanders

    4. Who’s the best coach in the NFL?

Greg Bedard: Kyle Shanahan. Now we’ll see if he can win the big one. He has the stones to do that. But in terms of what you need to do to get a team to be successful in the regular season. To build it and how to build it, he’s the best.

  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers v Carolina Panthers

    3. If this were Brittish soccer and you could relegate two franchises, who would it be?

Greg Bedard: Carolina and Atlanta. Nobody cares about those teams.

  • 2024 CFP National Championship - Michigan v Washington

HOUSTON, TEXAS – JANUARY 08: Head coach Jim Harbaugh of the Michigan Wolverines celebrates after defeating the Washington Huskies during the 2024 CFP National Championship game at NRG Stadium on January 08, 2024 in Houston, Texas. 2. Where is the best landing spot for Jim Harbaugh?

Greg Bedard: Las Vegas Raiders. He’s been there before and Mark Davis loves him. He’ll get full power.

    Felger: He’s been there before?

Greg Bedard: Well he was an assistant coach there.

Felger: Oh I didn’t realize that.

  • Allstate Sugar Bowl - Texas v Washington

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – JANUARY 01: Michael Penix Jr. #9 of the Washington Huskies throws a pass during the fourth quarter against the Texas Longhorns during the CFP Semifinal Allstate Sugar Bowl at Caesars Superdome on January 01, 2024 in New Orleans, Louisiana. 1.What were your thoughts on Michael Penix last night and in general?

Greg Bedard: Woof. That was rough last night. But I also do think it shows you the comparison how he looked the week before when he wasn’t getting that much pressure and what happened when he was under assault in this game. I thought he looked scared. He reminded some of Mac Jones backpedaling and throwing off the back foot. Just guessing. It was pretty scary. So he’s definitely out of consideration.
