Felger & Mazz

Greg Bedard of BostonSportsJournal.com joined Felger and Mazz on Tuesday, as he does every Tuesday during football season, to discuss the latest in the NFL. Bedard did his weekly 10 Questions from Around the NFL segment with Felger and Mazz following Super Bowl LVIII.

But before the 10 Questions, here’s some notes from Around the NFL courtesy of the NFL…

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes led all passers in passing yards during the NFL playoffs with 1,051 passing yards.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco led all rushers with 313 rushing yards during the NFL playoffs with 313 rushing yards.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce led all receivers in receiving yards during the NFL playoffs with 355 receiving yards. Kelce’s is dating Taylor Swift, who was in attendance at Super Bowl LVIII.

Super Bowl LIX will take place at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana on Sunday February 9th, 2025. It will be the eighth time that the Superdome in New Orleans has hosted the Super Bowl and the first since XLVII that was won by the Baltimore Ravens.

Andy Reid became just the fifth head coach in NFL history to win three or more Super Bowls. Reid joins Bill Belichick (6), Chuck Noll (4), Bill Walsh (3), and Joe Gibbs (3) in that group. Reid also has a Super Bowl victory as an assistant coach.

The San Francisco 49ers have now lost 3 consecutive Super Bowl appearances. The 49ers were 5-0 in their previous 5 appearances.

The 2024 NFL season is projected to get underway on Thursday September 5th, 2024. The reigning Super Bowl champions typically open the season at home, which means the Kansas City Chiefs are expected to host the season opener once again. The Chiefs fell to the Detroit Lions 21-20 to open the 2023 season.

The Chicago Bears currently hold the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday April 25th, 2024.

    10. What was your favorite Super Bowl commercial?

Greg Bedard: The Dunkings. I like Affleck, Damon, and Brady. I thought it was great.

    9. What was your least favorite Super Bowl commercial?

Greg Bedard: The RFK Jr spot spoofing his Uncle. What a tool bag.

     8. Thoughts on Usher/halftime show?

Greg Bedard: I don’t know. I didn’t get it. Like, I just don’t think he’s a big enough name. This isn’t 2004. It’s 20 years later. Like, can’t we get a bigger name than that?

     7. Thoughts on Taylor Swift and that whole situation?

Greg Bedard: I think that she’s handled all of this almost perfectly. It’s not her fault that the TV’s always on her. I mean, she just goes to the the game and she cheers. I think she’s opened it up to a lot of people who don’t know much about football. I mean, look at the ratings. They just set a record for ratings. That doesn’t happen without Taylor Swift being involved.

  • Kansas City Chiefs v New York Jets

     6. How do you feel about Travis Kelce as a person?

Greg Bedard: I love his compete. I love his athletic ability. But he’s he’s such a tool bag. I mean, he just is. I mean, bumping into Andy Reid and losing his mind. What the hell’s wrong with you? Let alone the dating show that he had once upon a time. He’s just a tool.

     5. Who was the biggest toolbag of the Super Bowl?

Greg Bedard: Roger Goodell. I think I say this every year. I mean moving his press conference and it’s invite only. And then like, when he got on the podium, like could you be any more stiff? He’s such a loser.

     4. Taking away Patrick Mahomes, pick the one player you’d want the most off of either team – and you have to pay him what the market would demand. So include the money the player makes…

Greg Bedard: This is not a big name, and I’m trying to be more realistic, and I might be just biased off of this game watching film…Jauan Jennings, the 49ers wide receiver. He’s six 6′ 3″200 pounds. He is a restricted free agent this year, so you offer him a contract that could maybe trump the 49ers, who I think are going to have some money issues this year. You might get a chance to steal him. Like I think he’s like Kendrick Bourne when the Patriots got him but taller and better. Adn his route running is outstanding.

     3. At what point what would it take for you to call Andy Reid a better coach than Bill Belichick?

Greg Bedard: Win a title without Mahomes. I mean look, he has a better record than than Bill, as you’ve illustrated many times over the last week, without a great quarterback. But he still has to win one. You know, he went to one Super Bowl with Donovan McNabb, who wasn’t great, but he wasn’t a bum. So to me, he’s a lot like Bill.

     2. Would you make any changes to the overtime format?

Greg Bedard: I like your idea and Bill’s idea of the the time period. My question is what happens if you’re tied at the end? Is it sudden death, or do you just do it again?

Felger: Flip it again, do it again.

Greg Bedard: So you play a another period?

Felger: You bet. It’s one game.

Greg Bedard: That’s a lot of football.

Felger: It’s one game. They’ve had two weeks off.

     1. Give me next year’s Super Bowl…..

Greg Bedard: Los Angles Chargers with Jim Harbaugh, I think he’s going to have a huge impact there. And the Green Bay Packers.
