On Wednesday, the Boston Red Sox made a big move by trading for left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox. The Red Sox used their deep pool of prospects to land the best starting pitcher on the trade market. In return, Chicago received catcher Kyle Teel, outfielder Braden Montgomery, infielder Chase Meidroth, and right-handed pitcher Wikelman Gonzalez.

This huge trade was the main topic on Toucher & Hardy Thursday morning, with Fred Toucher celebrating his accurate prediction. Toucher reminded listeners that he had been saying for a while that the Red Sox should go after Crochet because of his youth, strength, and potential, which made him stand out from other pitchers available.

  • WHY CROCHET WAS THE RIGHT CHOICE

During the show, Toucher explained why this was a smart move. He said going all-in on an older, well-known player like Max Fried, who’s the Yankees signed a day before the Crochet trade, would mean a long and risky contract. Instead, the Red Sox got a younger, stronger left-handed pitcher in Crochet who fits their long-term plans perfectly. “Why give too many years to Fried when you can use your prospects to get a younger, better option?” Toucher said.

The White Sox agreed to trade Crochet because the Red Sox made such a strong offer. Boston’s farm system is one of the best in the league, and they used that depth to outbid other teams by offering four top prospects.

  • JON WALLACH'S "FOGGY MEMORY":

Headlines extraordinaire, Jon Wallach didn’t remember Toucher ever predicting the Crochet trade. Wallach said he had suggested Dylan Cease instead, but Toucher didn’t let it slide. “You’re always making it about you,” Toucher said, before sticking to his claim that he got it right.

  • WHAT IT MEANS FOR THE RED SOX:

This trade shows that the Red Sox are serious about building a strong pitching team while keeping future flexibility. Crochet has already shown great potential with the White Sox and now has the chance to become a key part of Boston’s rotation. The trade also proves how valuable Boston’s farm system is and how they can use it to make smart moves.

Fred Toucher’s prediction adds even more excitement for Red Sox fans. It’s still uncertain how this move will play out on the field, but for now, the trade is one of the big story in Boston sports right now
