Felger & Mazz

Despite having the best record in the NHL, the Boston Bruins power play has struggled real bad in recent weeks. On Wednesday’s Felger and Mazz, Felger offered a solution to the Bruins power play.

  • What is Felger's solution for the Bruins power play?

Felger: That’s one of those games where your dog crap up and down the ice, but you get on the powerplay and you pot one that changes the entire nature and DNA of the game and you somehow pull it out just because you took advantage of your powerplay, which they didn’t of course, 0-5, six shots. Their power powerplay has been wretched. And that was Jim Montgomery talking about it. He’s asked about making changes to it, I’ve got a change for him…sit Pastrnak down. Get him off the ice. Get him off the ice. At least a little bit more because they’ve been relying on him heavily. Last night Pastrnak played 7:16 last night on the power play. Over 7 minutes of power play time. That’s a crap ton. He played 7:16 on the power play, zero shots on goal. 7:16 on the power play and not a single shot.

    Mazz: Unbelievable.

Felger: And if you watch it…

Mazz: He makes horrible decisions with the puck too.

Felger: Horrible. If you actually watch it, and not just the clips on your phone, you wouldn’t know. But if you actually watch the thing I want to say fully half, but that’s probably an exaggeration, maybe a third of the time that they actually gain the zone, it comes back out of the zone because of a turnover from Pastrnak, an intercepted pass from Pastrnak, a wayward shot from Pastrnak that misses the net and careems all the way out. It feels to me fully half of the time whenever they get in there, which they can barely get in there nowadays, but when they get in there, it’s coming the other way because of something he did. Get him off the ice. 7:16 with no shots? What are you doing? His decision making with the puck is wretched. It’s wretched. And every once in a while, he makes a good play because he’s really talented. But I don’t think the juice is worth the squeeze with David Pastrnak out there that much. So sit him down. And I’d say sit the first two units down. They can’t do anything.
