Felger & Mazz

Felger & Mazz

New England Patriots training camp gets underway this week and Mac Jones and new #1 receiver, JuJu Smith-Schuster, have yet to workout together ahead of camp. On Monday’s Felger and Mazz the guys discussed the lack of connection between the two.

Why haven’t the two worked out together yet?

Felger: JuJu Smith-Schuster not working out with Mac Jones. This is great. The number one receiver, the guy replacing the number one target. Every team, everywhere, when a new receiver is signed or a new quarterback is signed or there’s a new “battery” if you will, they get together, they go to some high school and they play catch. It’s like everyone does that. Except for these guys. Did we get the Smith-Schuster cut on why they couldn’t get together? Listen to all the reasons why they couldn’t. This was good. I love his reasons.

JuJu Smith Schuster Audio: “Actually, I did not. He traveled and I went back home. I actually had a short two short weeks, went back home, had a wedding and had a football camp. I made a new gym for my high school and I even did a gaming camp, a free gaming camp for kids for like 5 hours. I mean, it was a pretty short time, but not enough”.

Mazz: That was my favorite.

Felger: So “I traveled, he traveled, I had a wedding, a football camp, I helped build a new gym for my high school and I did a video game camp”.

Mazz: Yeah, Fortnite.

Felger: So between all that, there was not ever a two hour window to go down to Foxboro High and just go on the field and….

Jim Murray: Build a rapport with the new quarterback.

Felger: And just chuck the football around with your new quarterback, which everyone does everywhere, every offseason.

Mazz: It’s a given. It’s a given that type of stuff is a given. Instead, he’s teaching kids how to play Fortnite.

Jim Murray: So it’s one of two things that have happened here. So maybe these two, Mac Jones and JuJu Smith-Schuster are two ships passing in the night or his knee, which he had work on this offseason, is made out of Triscuits. Either way, it’s not good.

Felger: Yeah, it’s that too. Maybe he’s not ready, but you still get together and play catch. What the hell is up with this? Bad start on that front.
