  • Is this now a series?

Felger: I’ll just start off by saying I do think it is a series now. I do. And I’ll just say I think it’s a series now because I still think the Celtics are so much better than the Heat it’s not even funny. I thought the Heat were horrible last night for long stretches.

Mazz: They were they were bad last night, yeah.

Felger: And not everybody, you know, there was time’s Caleb Martin looked like a legit star wing, NBA wing player. But I just thought there were stretches they looked so bad, and then it occurred to me, well that is kind of what they are actually. I thought Bam Adebayo last night was just wretched. And then it occurred to me, well, he hasn’t been very good for a couple of years. Maybe that’s just what he is. Did you see some of the shots Jimmy Butler missed under the rim?

    Mazz: Yes. Uncharacteristic.

Felger: Like, just dunk the basketball. He had a couple where he’s just all alone underneath the basket and he tries to put it off the backboard and misses long. It’s like, just place it in the basket. You’re right there. And they had a bunch of turnovers. Like, look, I think Miami was bad and Miami maybe is kind of bad. And you’re kind of really good. So I think just based on that, it’s a series because they’re that much better than the Heat. Why can’t they rip off three more games in a row? I think it’s a series.

  • Mazz: Okay, I don’t. Not yet. Because they’re the Celtics. So when you say, why can’t they rip off four in a row? They can, but they’ve always had that capacity and yet they still get in their own way. So now, look, I’m not telling you last night is totally insignificant. But I think to me, at the end of the day, I look at it and say, all they really did last night was avoid the sweep. Now, if they win the next one, and normally I would say you should feel pretty good coming home for game five, but with them, who knows? They haven’t won at home. Miami beat them both games here.

Felger: So you don’t think they’re going to win the next one?

    Mazz: I didn’t say that.

Felger: But let’s just ergo, let’s just I’m now I’m…

Mazz: I’m just telling you, I still think it’s a coin flip.

Felger: I’m using logic. You said you don’t think it’s a series.

    Mazz: Not yet.

Felger: And then you said if they win the next one, then it is.

    Mazz: Yeah.

Felger: So you don’t think they’re going to win the next one?

Mazz: No, I mean I’m not making a judgment either way. I’m just telling you that the first win doesn’t get you back in the series because Miami’s still got a lot of rope left. I mean, there’s plenty of room there, and they’ve won here twice. You’ve done nothing in this building to suggest that they can’t win here. And maybe I’m just talking from the perspective of an outsider like someone watching it, but they still haven’t inspired any confidence in me. I guess that’s what I’m saying. They’ve been the better team throughout and they’re still down 3-1. But I also think the mind games that come into play, last night to me was just a bad game for Miami. That’s it. I don’t think there’s a pattern there yet.
