As we get closer to the NHL trade deadline, the Bruins seem to constantly be in the rumor mill. A few have mentioned that the Bruins don’t want to mess up the chemistry in the locker room, which could make a few players on the roster “untouchable”. Felger has a message for those people….don’t fall in love with your entire roster.

  • Is Jake DeBrusk an untouchable on the roster?

Felger: So I’m concerned about it because, you know, in the same bit of commentary, you’ll hear it from these guys and I hear it from Ty Anderson every time I talk about it, it’s like, “well, they have such a good thing going. The chemistry is so great, you don’t want to upset it”. Well, which is it? If you’re going to add, you’re going to have to subtract. Don’t fall in love with your entire roster. Don’t delude yourself into thinking that you can’t improve. And don’t be afraid to take the risk of having a little bit of a different mix in there. That’s a dangerous game. Like, for example. so again, that podcast was before Horvat was traded to the Islanders. After Bo Horvat was traded to the Islanders, Fluto Shinzawa wrote this, “Horvat would have been a complex but good fit for the Bruins for this year and perhaps beyond. But to play at the Horvat table, the Bruins equivalent to Anthony Beauvillier, who was part of the trade going out to Vancouver, the equivalent to Beauvillier would have been Jake Debrusk. That would have been a nonstarter”, period, paragraph. Why? Why is Jake Debrusk a nonstarter? Jake Debrusk is now some sort of untouchable prospect that you just can’t give up. Like what?

  • Are the Bruins worried about messing up the chemistry in the room?

Felger: And then as part of the podcast there, Elliotte Friedman says, you know, Carlo is in demand. That Vancouver would have wanted Carlo or Carlo is someone that teams ask about, but he doesn’t feel Boston is looking to do that. The chemistry’s too good. So like now they’re worried about chemistry? Like what if you get someone better and you win a round? Your chemistry will be fine! Win playoff games! Trust me, you won’t have a problem with chemistry! Should be worried about building the best team, not the chemistry part.
