Prior to the NHL Trade Deadline Bruins GM Don Sweeney added Garnet Hathaway, Dmitry Orlov, and Tyler Bertuzzi to the roster. Many now believe that it means the Bruins are going “all in” to make one last run. However, Felger did some cap math to let those people know that they can keep this team together. Here’s a step by step breakdown by Felger (with the help of Ty Anderson).

  • What's the salary cap next year?

In Felger’s plan the salary cap for the 2023-24 NHL season should be around $84 million dollars. However, it could go up to $86 million if some big market teams like Boston, Toronto, or the New York Rangers can make a deep run.

  • Who's not going anywhere?

David Pastrnak – $11,250,000 cap hit

Charlie McAvoy – $9,500,000 cap hit

Brad Marchand – $6,125,000 cap hit

Charlie Coyle – $5,250,000 cap hit

Hampus Lindholm – $6,500,000 cap hit

Linus Ullmark – $5,000,000 cap hit

Pavel Zacha – $4,750,000 cap hit

Brandon Carlo – $4,100,000 cap hit

Jake DeBrusk – $4,000,000 cap hit

Derek Forbort – $3,000,000 cap hit
