Felger & Mazz

With Boston Bruins forward Nick Foligno suffering a lower body injury in Tuesday’s overtime win over the Calgary Flames, Felger feels that Don Sweeney needs to make another trade before Friday’s trade deadline to replace Foligno if he’s going to miss some significant time.

  • Do the Bruins still need to make a move on offense?

Felger: A couple more notes on the Bruins. Number one, Orlov already looks like another Don Sweeney deadline deal that’s, I don’t know, score another one for Sweeney. I think he now has got to go do something else, Mazz. And it’s not necessarily Patrick Kane to the Rangers, or all the moves the Leafs made, which they did quite a bit, couple defenseman and Ryan O’Reilly. I’m not doing it for that. I’m doing it for the Nick Foligno injury. That’s a loss. It looked bad last night and he’s already been ruled out tomorrow. And if that’s any kind of season ending thing, I think they need to replace him. I think he’s been a valuable guy for them.

Mazz: Well there’s leadership, too, right? But beyond that, it sort of offsets Hathaway a little bit.

Felger: Hathaway fills what he does. But….

Mazz: But you want them both.

Felger: I want them both. I want them both. I mean, who’s the forward that comes up? If Foligno’s out, who’s the guy? I’m trying to think.

Mazz: They don’t really have one.

    Felger: I mean, they don’t.

Mazz: No, they don’t. I mean, the guys who have come up over the course of the year are Lauko, Studnicka, I’m going back a little.

Felger: So now it’s McLaughlin, or I mean, I can’t even think they’ve had so few guys circle back and forth.

Mazz: They’ve been astonishingly healthy, too, which is another thing that has worked in their favor.

Felger: So I don’t need a big move to keep up with Patrick Kane, or a big move to keep up with Ryan O’Reilly or McCabe or Schenn there in Toronto or, you know, if Chychrun goes to Carolina. I don’t need to do that, you know, because the top of my roster is as good as anyone’s. And so I say a Foligno replacement, because it shouldn’t be that hard finding a sturdy, hopefully bigger veteran guy to play on your fourth line and bang around with Hathaway. That’s what I think they need to go do. If Foligno is only going to be out for a week or so when he’s back, then fine. But if this is anything approaching a longer term thing, I think they need to make a move there.
