  • Jayson Tatum scored 41 points as the Boston Celtics set a new franchise record for points in a Christmas Day game on Sunday, mauling the Milwaukee Bucks by a 139-118 final.

Tatum scored 20 of his 41 points in the third quarter, when the Celtics extended their lead from 64-62 at halftime to 100-86 entering the fourth. They didn’t let up in the fourth, pouring on 39 more points, even as the Bucks managed 32 of their own. Tatum shot 63.6 percent from the field, and not to be overlooked was Jaylen Brown and his 29 points on 57.9 percent shooting.

The Celtics dominated from three-point range, going 19-for-39 from downtown as a team (48.7 percent). Seven different players hit at least one triple, as Brown led the way at 5-for-9 from beyond the arc.

Sunday marked the Celtics’ first win on Christmas since 2019, when they beat the Toronto Raptors 118-102. Their 139 points set a new team record and was their highest scoring output since 2018 in a 121-114 overtime win over the 76ers.
