The Boston Celtics have teased fans about what their newest “City Edition” jersey will look like for the 2023-24 season.

On top of that, a number of new looks at the design of the Celtics’ new alternate uniforms have also leaked on the Internet, which of course remains undefeated. If you care to hear my major complaint with last season’s Celtics City Edition jersey, it was the color scheme. It just looked too similar to the shade of green on the Milwaukee Bucks’ regular uniforms.

Whenever the Celtics wore those jerseys against the Bucks, it was borderline painful to watch. It’s still not that hard to follow an NBA game in terms of which team has the ball, but the sameness of the C’s and Bucks’ jerseys and the meh overall design of the “City Edition” made the games less than aesthetically pleasing.

Unfortunately, it appears that the Celtics are not going to solve that jersey color problem with their new “City Edition” jerseys. It’s understandable that they wouldn’t want the same exact green that you see on their classic uniforms, but it’s just annoyingly similar to Milwaukee. That looks to be staying.

However, there’s one key change for the new alternate jerseys, that will more closely relate them to the ones that fans are using to seeing. The Celtics’ new City Edition jersey features new, simplified lettering, as they’ve ditched the cursive style of last year’s look. The result is a better overall uniform.

Check out the Celtics’ own teaser of their latest alternate uniforms, which they released on their X account on Wednesday. But there have been other apparent leaks going around on the platform, and we’ll look at those, too.

  • We can all say what we want about the lettering and color scheme. But there’s one obvious truth, here: the stitching and material quality is top-notch. You can see that plainly with these high-res images of the Celtics’ City Edition uniforms that they’ll wear during the 2023-24 campaign.

  • This leak, via “GreenRunsDeep” on X, certainly looks like the real deal. This gives a wider view of the white version of the jersey, and the more traditional, Celtic-like lettering.

  • The X account “Celtics Lead” also got its hands on photos of the Celtics’ new “City Edition” jersey, specificially a Jayson Tatum one. This is an even wider view of the uniform, which reveals the new angular green & gold trim on the sides. Like other parts of these uniforms have in the past, that’s likely to be a polarizing design choice.

  • Technically, this is just some fancy graphic design work by “Benjay”, who posted this on his X and Instagram accounts.

  • It’s unknown when the Celtics will officially wear their new “City Edition” jersey, but you can be sure that they’ll want to get them in front of as many eyeballs as possible. Expect them to don the City Editions in high-profile or big-market games, like when they play the Bucks, Heat, 76ers, or Knicks. Just an educated guess.
