  • Here’s an undisputedly good thing that is happening: the Boston Bruins and All-Star winger David Pastrnak are talking contract.

Pastrnak was asked about a potential long-term deal with the B’s at his most recent media availability, which is to be expected. But

The two sides are talking. Nothing close, yet. https://t.co/1cdTJQTeu5

Surely, some will leech right onto the “Nothing close” part. But the fact the two sides are talking at all is good. It just is. The Pastrnak camp could have cut that off and signified that they’re looking toward the open market. They’ve never given that indication.

  • In fact, with Pastrnak it’s pretty much been the opposite. Certainly based on his most recent comment when asked if he’s hopeful to strike a long-term agreement with Boston.

“Yeah, of course,” Pastrnak said (via NHL.com). “This city is where I got the chance to become the player I am and to become the human being I am. The Boston organization has played an unbelievable part in it. I came here as a kid, and now I’m a man, you know? So, I’m extremely happy. A lot of great memories. And as I said many times, I love it here and it’s an honor to wear the jersey.”

The Sports Hub’s own Ty Anderson, my co-host on the Sports Hub Underground podcast, has always said he expects the Bruins and Pastrnak to finalize an extension during training camp. Camp has yet to officially begin, but they’re in the midst of captain’s practices and the Prospects Challenge in Buffalo. The preseason is set to begin Saturday, Sept. 24 in Philadelphia.

  • Further, the 2022-23 regular season starts later than most years. The Bruins’ first real game isn’t until Oct. 12 against the Washington Capitals. That gives the B’s and Pastrnak a little over three weeks to get the thing done. There’s never been reason to believe they will not, other than the fact that it has not happened yet.

But it’ll happen. So if you’re a-scared about this, breathe. Everything’s going to be OK.
